A very full Saturday of bowls for some at West Pennant Hills with the fourth round and quarter-finals of the 2017 Barry Walker Classic Pairs.
There were three games in the morning's first round. First among these was Steve Hardwick and Kevin Tuckerman against Thompson Lee and Dom Surace. A very even game in most respects with the lead changing a number of times over the first 14 ends. The game was so even balanced that scores were tied after 10 ends on 10-all. It was only really in the last four ends of the game that either side got a bit of a run on the board with Steve and Kevin picking up 8 shots to take the game 23-13.
In the next game, event and club Patron Barry Walker and Keith Robinson were up against Michael Trimboli and Steve Arnold. Barry and Keith were quick of the mark, taking four shots on the first end. While Michael and Steve did their best to get into the game, Barry and Keith were just too consistent with Barry and Keith winning 13 of the 20 ends played. The final score was 23-10 in their favour.
In the last of the morning games, Rod Houston and Darrin Ede faced David Polley and Jim Ede. On the line were bragging rights between father and son and the game did not disappoint. David and Jim seemed to have the read of the green early on by taking a handy 16-7 lead into the ninth end. However, not to be outdone, Rod and Darrin came storming back into the game with a few quick fire multiples to draw level at 16-all after the 12th end. Producing scores so close you couldn't slip a pension card between them, the scores were tied on the penultimate end at 22-all. In the end, David and Jim emerged victorious taking the end and the match 23-22.
Congratulations to the morning's winners and best wishes for the afternoon's competition.
