    2nd Round – 10th July

Well there was some excitement on the green yesterday with 2 of the games needing a tie break end to decide who would progress to the semi-final next Saturday. Norm Jackson/Don Stubbin made good use of the extra end against Bevan Crossman (subst for David Jeffery)/Geoff McIntosh, winning by 1 shot. A similar story was played out on the next rink between Aaron and Terry Barnett and Rod Gamble/Dallas Palm, with Rod/Dallas picking up 1 shot to win. In both these games, one team developed an early lead only to have that whittled away to produce thrilling finishes.

The other games had leads eaten away by opponents that would not lay down and hand a victory to the other side. This just shows what fighting skills we have in the club these days and it is good for the future competitiveness of our club.

In my view, the standard of these games support the format of this event. Lets keep it going and build it up as the prestige event on our club.

Today’s first round games proved quite interesting. The results ranged from very close to not so close. Nonetheless, all players gave it their best efforts and safe to say that the score board doesn’t necessarily reflect the quality of the game.

Congratulations to those teams that progress to the next round. Thanks go to Don Couch for umpiring today – as always a superb effort.

    Check the results here.

Next round in 2 weeks – 10th July.
